Starting a new website project can feel exciting but also overwhelming.
When partnering with Grassroots Creative Company, gathering and planning out high-quality professional website assets makes all the difference in transforming your ideas into a meaningful online experience. But, you may be wondering a few things:
In this post, we’ll examine all the website assets you need to ensure project success.
Website assets—often called project materials or website content—are the essential components needed to build, design, and fill your website to tell your story online. They are the building blocks of your site and include everything that goes into your website, from images and videos to brand elements and testimonials. They are the GUTS (in my 90’s Nickelodeon voice) of your website. On a serious note, without them, you wouldn’t have much of a site; just an empty shell really.
Website assets matter because organizing project materials in advance allows us to move forward smoothly without delays, saving valuable time and money. As the designer, having quality website assets will enable me to create a cohesive, professional website that aligns with your vision from day one. It also ensures that every element fits seamlessly into the final site without any gaps, delivering a more polished, consistent user experience…aka the best version of your website.
Below is a checklist of assets you’ll need for a successful web design project with us.
Professional website photos are a MUST. Videos are a bonus. Work with a photographer first for high-quality images that illustrate all you do and showcase your brand.
Primary, secondary, and any other logos you have for your business, plus a style guide if you have one. I offer this as a service if needed.
Track down your website, domain, email marketing, shop, and social + any other system logins you use for your site.
Ideally 3-5 great testimonials to serve as social proof. Have client logos, pictures, or video to include? Even better!
We all have common questions ppl ask. Gather 5-8 of these + answers for your contact page to cut down on all the back and forth.
Have any additional marketing material that you would like to incorporate? Any existing text you’d like to keep? Get that together.
Something that I’m pretty firm on is having clients work with a professional photographer FIRST. It’s never too early to schedule a photo session since a photographer’s availability can vary, so plan accordingly. After your photoshoot, remember that they’ll need additional time to edit images or videos, which could take several days or weeks, depending on their workload.
Not having your final files ready can stop a project dead in its tracks (as well as a lost domain login). It’s something to be mindful of, especially if we are trying to launch by a specific date. So, please gather these in advance before reaching out to me to avoid any delays and late fees that can occur if we need to reschedule.
Why is this a big deal? Behind the scenes, on my end, it takes time to plan, research, quote, and prepare websites and client projects. For this partnership to work, we have to respect each other’s time.
To recap, gathering your website assets in advance is SO important. It may seem like a bit much or even a lot of heavy lifting on your end at first, but it pays off in the end and ensures that I have everything needed to design the best version of your website. After the assets and on-boarding stage, I’ll take the reins, and you’ll just have to show up for a few sessions and email feedback.
As always, I’m here to help guide you and make sense of it all. Take a look at the rest of my blog for more resources, including more information on website photos and a photography guide. Reach out to Grassroots Creative Company today to start your website transformation.
